Video Surveillance

Video surveillance provides a cost-effective alternative for public safety workers to monitor activities in almost any location, without adding more feet on the street. Both fixed and mobile video services can be deployed to deliver a range of benefits to communities while increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of public safety workers.

  • Police officers can centrally monitor high crime locations providing early awareness of potential problems, helping increase community safety and improve police efficiency. Fixed and in-vehicle video feeds can be monitored at a central site as well as streamed to police cars so that multiple officers can view a crime in progress and be prepared when they arrive on scene.
  • Fire fighters can get advanced warning of wildfires by monitoring vulnerable areas with video surveillance cameras during times of high fire danger. Even remote locations can be served by solar-powered video cameras and GTP router nodes.
  • Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) can communicate with emergency room doctors in real-time, providing patient vital data and live video of the patient while en route, and enabling doctors to be ready upon patient arrival. The ability to actually "see" patients earlier can help make the difference between life and death.

High-speed wireless broadband access with GTP and its MetroMesh Solution partners are being used in many cities. Some examples include:

  • Virtual Crime Watch - The City of Savannah, Georgia is leveraging video surveillance to increase public safety and offset a shortage of officers. Video cameras provide 24 X 7 monitoring of key areas of the city, including 22 historic squares and the city's popular riverfront area.
  • Virtual Lifeguards and Fire Watch - In Laguna Beach, California, IP video surveillance cameras are used to extend the protective reach of lifeguards and fire watch personnel.
  • Emergency Medical Services - In Tucson, Arizona, the national's first video-based Emergency Medial Services (EMS) telemedicine system delivers live video and patient vital information to emergency room doctors while patients are en route, enabling doctors to gain advance knowledge about a patient's condition.
